Dear local magazines

6 Oct

In principle, I really have nothing against — nor mean/desire any harm to — the “it girls” or public figures you feature. But when will you realize that  there are only so many times you can recycle a cover girl? I want to read about people, not the same flavor-of-the-month personalities in so many words and so little original angles.

I want and deserve profiles, not fluff pieces.

true! readers don’t get their money’s worth when they buy local magazines. the problem isn’t just w/ the choice of cover girls. it’s the content that’s the real problem. 😦

ditto. ang hilig nilang i-relegate ngayon sa guidebook o tips collection ang mga mags nila. tapos yung mga profiles na from the perspective of the author, na mapapatanong ka: sino ba talaga finefeature, yung subject o yung writer?

bihira na lang yung may konsepto ng long-form journalism. buti pa yung mga magazines circa F. Sionil to Nick Joaquin’s era, where genuine talents were discovered, honed and valued.

“sino ba talaga finefeature, yung subject o yung writer?” <–true! it makes me sad. gusto ko pa naman magtrabaho sa magazine at mag-attempt magsulat ng mga new yorker-esque articles w/ lots of research involved. magtaguyod na lang tayo ng sarili nating magazine hahahaa. kumpitensyahin ang cosmo! lol

even the supposedly least commercial and most (pa-)art magazines are guilty of this. hear, hear! :))
